1. Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how How I Met collects, uses, stores, shares, and protects personal data when you use the How I Met mobile app, public website, account features, profile features, discovery tools, messaging, safety tools, notifications, and AI-assisted experiences.
How I Met is designed for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to use the service. We do not knowingly allow children to create accounts or use the service.

2. Information you provide
We process information you choose to provide, such as your email address, sign-in details, profile information, photos, profile answers, interests, preferences, intentions, filters, messages, reports, support requests, and other content submitted through the service.
Some profile fields may reveal sensitive or personal characteristics, depending on what you choose to share. You control what you add to your profile and should avoid sharing information you do not want other people to see.
3. Information generated through use
We may process service activity such as account status, profile visibility, connection requests, matches, conversations, blocks, reports, moderation events, app settings, language settings, notification preferences, and feature interactions.
We may process technical information such as device type, operating system, app version, browser type, IP address, approximate region, diagnostic logs, crash information, timestamps, and identifiers needed to keep the service secure and reliable.
4. Photos, messages, and profile content
Photos, profile content, connection requests, and messages are processed so the service can display profiles, support discovery, enable conversations, respond to reports, and keep the community safe.
People you interact with may be able to view, save, or share content you make visible to them. Use care when sharing personal information in profiles or conversations.
5. Location and discovery
If you grant location permission or provide location-related information, we may use it to support nearby discovery, distance filters, profile relevance, safety checks, and service diagnostics.
You can manage location permissions through your device settings. Some discovery features may not work as expected if location access is disabled.
6. AI-assisted features
How I Met may offer optional AI-assisted features, including voice or profile-related experiences. When you use those features, we may process prompts, audio, transcripts, profile context, selected content, and feature outputs to provide the requested experience and maintain safety.
Do not submit information to AI-assisted features that you do not want processed for the requested interaction. AI outputs may be imperfect and should not be treated as professional, legal, medical, financial, or safety advice.
7. How we use information
We use information to create and secure accounts, authenticate users, display profiles, personalize discovery, deliver messages and notifications, process connection requests, provide support, investigate reports, prevent abuse, enforce our Terms, diagnose issues, and improve the service.
We may also use information to comply with legal obligations, protect rights and safety, maintain service integrity, and communicate important service updates.
8. Sharing of information
We do not sell personal data. We may share information with service providers that help us operate hosting, databases, storage, authentication, notifications, analytics, moderation, AI-assisted features, customer support, security, and infrastructure.
We may share information if required by law, legal process, safety needs, fraud prevention, security investigations, enforcement of our Terms, business transfers, or protection of users, How I Met, or the public.
9. Data retention
We keep personal data for as long as needed to provide the service, maintain security, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce our Terms, and support legitimate operational needs.
